An American Express statement can look confusing at first — paired columns, separate sections, reward points. In this guide we explain each section in plain language, so you can read your statement and convert it to Excel for your own spending analysis.
1. Account Summary (Pehla Section)
Statement ki shuruaat me ye table hoti hai:
- Previous Balance: pichle statement ka bacha hua amount
- Payments: aapne mahine me kitna jama kiya
- New Charges: this month's new purchases
- Fees & Interest: annual fee, late fee, interest
- New Balance: how much is due now (previous − payments + charges + fees)
2. Payments and Credits
This section holds everything in your favor — Credit: payments, refunds, statement credits and rewards credits. When you convert to Excel/CSV, these all land in the Credit column.
3. New Charges / Purchases
Is section me har khareedaari hoti hai — Debit. Har entry me date, merchant name aur amount hota hai. Some entries show both a transaction date and a posting date — here's what each means:
- Transaction Date: when you made the purchase. Post Date: when Amex added it to your account
4. Fees and Interest
- Annual/Membership Fee: saal me ek baar
- Late Payment Fee: due date ke baad payment par
- Foreign Transaction Fee: dollar ke alawa currency me kharch karne par (usually 2.7%)
- Interest Charge: balance carry karne par
5. Rewards Summary (Membership Rewards)
Points earned, points redeemed, total balance — this section isn't transactions, so the tool skips it and extracts only the real transactions.
6. Minimum Payment Due — the smallest amount you must pay by the due date. Even if you don't pay the full balance, there's no late fee — but interest will apply. Hamari salah: jitna ho sake utna zyada do.
