Your credit card statement date (bill generation date) decides everything: when your transactions are counted, when your payment is due, and how long you can use the bank's money interest-free. Below is a bank-by-bank summary of typical billing cycle behaviour in India — statement date flexibility, typical due date and grace period.

⚠️ Important: every bank's exact dates vary by card and by customer. The table below shows typical patterns (verified from cardholder reports) — your statement always shows YOUR exact due date. Use our billing cycle calculator to work out dates.

How to find YOUR exact dates

How to change your statement / bill generation date

If your due date keeps falling on an inconvenient day (e.g. just before salary day), most private banks let you request a different statement date — usually once a year — via the app, net banking or customer care. What actually happens: the bank moves your billing cycle start, so the due date shifts with it. Public sector banks (SBI, PNB, Bank of Baroda) are more restrictive — call customer care and ask; approval varies by card.

Popular choices: statement date a few days after your salary credit, and avoid a date that makes 2 payments fall in the same month.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What is the billing cycle of a credit card?

A>Usually 28–31 days between two statement dates. All transactions in that window appear on one statement with one due date. The due date is typically 18–20 days after the statement date.

Q: Can I change my HDFC / Axis / ICICI credit card bill generation date?

A>Yes — HDFC, ICICI, Axis, Kotak, IDFC First and most private banks allow a statement-date change request (usually once a year) via app, net banking or customer care. SBI and most PSU banks rarely allow it.

Q: How many days do I get to pay after the statement?

A>Typically 18–21 days. Pay the full amount in this window to avoid all interest — that's your interest-free period.

Q: What happens if my due date falls on a Sunday/holiday?

A>Most banks move the due date to the next working day automatically — confirm in your app. Don't rely on it though; pay a day early.

Q: Why is my statement date fixed by the bank?

A>Banks spread cardholders across different cycle dates to manage load. You usually can't pick an arbitrary date, but you can request a different fixed date.
